NPC Friends and Family has partnered with the towns of Snowflake and Taylor to host its second annual NPC Friends and Family Disc Golf Scholarship Tournament to be held on Saturday, Aug. 11, at the Four Seasons course in Snowflake. Funds from this tournament will help provide scholarships for Northland Pioneer College students. NPC Friends and Family Executive Director Betsyann Wilson noted that the event will not only generate scholarship funds but also raise awareness of the beautiful Four Seasons course, which shares the grounds with the Snowflake Municipal Golf Course. This is a family-friendly event and according to Wilson, “Spectators are welcome to come and see what the sport of disc golf is all about. “It is our goal to double our first-year’s registration to 80 players, with not less than 40 of them being professionals. While this is only our second tournament, we are using the Emporia, Kansas, Glass Blown Open as our model for building the event to become a feature attraction for Snowflake/Taylor for years to come. Joining us in our vision, the towns of Snowflake and Taylor have each pledged $1,000, so we can add $2,000 to the cash payout for professional players! Amateurs will play for trophies and prizes,” added Wilson. Disc Golf Hall of Famer Dan Ginnelly and Steve Johnston, two pioneers of the sport, co-designed the Four Seasons course. Johnston, who will again serve as tournament director, is also crafting the trophies to be awarded to the winning amateurs. His trophy designs are well known and highly prized among disc golfers around the Southwest. Registration is $60 for amateur and $70 for professionals, which includes lunch, two rounds of tournament action (morning and afternoon) and a gift bag complete with a new disc, tee shirt, hat and sunscreen. There will be categories for both men and women, pro and amateur players, as well as youths. The players in the pro division will play for a half-cash payback for the top third in each category, plus the additional cash purse of $2,000 provided by the cities of Snowflake and Taylor.
