Last week, Navajo County Sheriff’s Office Deputies administered Narcan, which is a medication used for known or suspected opioid overdoses, on two different occasions to subjects that had possibly overdosed. On July 1, deputies responded to the 4000 block of Clydesdale Road in Snowflake for medical assistance. Upon arrival, the 48-year-old man was unconscious, with inconsistent breathing and unresponsive. Deputies attempted sternum rubs on the subject, which were unsuccessful. The male had a pulse, but his breathing was inconsistent. The deputy had learned that the subject takes prescription pain medication, so based on that information the deputy retrieved his Narcan and administered it into the subject’s nasal cavity. The subject woke up and was transported to a local hospital and later flown to a Phoenix hospital for further medical treatment. On July 8, deputies responded to the 1000 block of Whiting Avenue in Holbrook for an unresponsive individual. Upon arrival, the deputy quickly grabbed the Narcan and administered it to the 52-year-old man. A short period later, the deputy administered a second dose of Narcan. The individual regained consciousness and was transported to a local hospital. In response to those incident, Sheriff David Clouse stated, “Due to the deputies’ quick thinking and quality training, they were able to save not one, but two people’s lives and for that I am grateful. The Sheriff’s Office has been carrying Narcan and training our deputies in the use of Narcan for some time now and this is the reason why. It works!”
