Obit DeWitt Dan

Dan Terry DeWitt “Moose”, age 82, of Snowflake, Ariz. passed away peacefully with his family by his side on the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016. He was born June 3, 1934, in Gallup, N.M. to parents John “Dee” and Claradell DeWitt. They moved to the valley and he attended and graduated from both Phoenix Union High School and Arizona State University. He met Nancy and they were married in 1958 and sealed in 1960 in the Mesa Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of which he was an active member. He was also an avid student of the gospel. Dan and Nancy have been married for 58 years, a wonderful example.

Dan taught 7th and 8th grade woodshop class at the Snowflake Junior High School for 34 years. His students liked to call him “Mr. Sand some more.” He taught students to build wooden stools, which are now found all over the world. He also taught 31 semesters of adult night school at Northland Pioneer College. He was a woodworker, he built antique style clocks and he built homes in the summertime. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor; he would joke and kid around and had a lot of cute little sayings. He was a good husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He has many students that would still come visit him and Nancy regularly.

Dan is survived by his wife Nancy; daughters, DeeAnn Medaglia (Chris) of Avondale, Dalane DeWitt of Washington; brother Larry of Prescott; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister Marjorie Gardner; and by his brothers, Harold, Russell and Stacy.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Mike Ramsey Memorial Cemetery in Snowflake.

Silver Creek Mortuary of Taylor was in charge of the arrangements.
