Northland Pioneer College Beginning Acting students will perform the final act of a previously unproduced play, The Immoral Miss O’Neill, at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 8, on the main stage of the Performing Arts Center on the Snowflake/Taylor-Silver Creek Campus, located at 1611 S. Main St. There is no admission charge.
The Immoral Miss O’Neill was written in 1918 by Julie Herne, daughter of James Herne, the playwright who is credited with popularizing Realism in America by creating plays that echoed the works of Henrik Ibsen.
NPC Performing Arts Department Chair Dr. Michael Solomonson researched Ms. Herne’s unproduced plays at the Library of Congress during a sabbatical last spring. He discovered she was dedicated to creating realistic works in the vein of her father, but with a feminist sensibility that blended comedy and social problem as a means of exploring injustices that women of the early 20th century had to face in their struggle for respect and autonomy.
For questions about the inaugural performance of the play, contact Solomonson at (928) 536-6217.
