Summer is well underway and area golfers can now enjoy a frosty beer after a round of golf. The newly added bar area at the Snowflake Municipal Golf Course has been open about a month and it appears to be a success so far.
Back in March the Snowflake Town Council approved a liquor license requested for the golf course. The town hoped it was a way to better entice golf tournaments. Town Manager Brian Richards said, “For the tournaments it is really a plus. We recently had an Elks tournament which did really well, and will probably get them back again this summer, which they usually only do one a summer.”
The bar did about $3,600 in sales in the first 23 days of operation. As word gets out and the summer progresses the town expects an increase in sales. “Our goal would be $5,000 in sales on average a month, so I believe we will get there,” said Richards.
Golfers have the option of enjoying a drink at the bar that is equipped with two flat screen televisions or they can grab an icy cold six-pack to go as they play golf. “Yesterday we had the entire bar area full,” said bartender Amanda Silverhorn.
The Skillet restaurant that is located next door to the bar allows customers to order food to go and take it to the bar area to enjoy with their drinks. The Skillet is independently owned but is trying to work with the bar to benefit them both.
The golf course itself is in great condition and the town is receiving a lot of positive feedback. Overall the golf course total receipts are up 20 percent over last year, which is a significant improvement.
