A rag-tag, mixed-bag of rad dads and lads clad in drag who had the gags and rags to brag, took the stage at Winslow High School’s performing arts center for the Alice’s Guy Pageant last Saturday.
The pageant proceeds go to supporting Alice’s Place’s mission which is helping victims of domestic and sexual violence in the community. The pageant was held for the first-time last week since before the pandemic. The pageant included a talent portion, a question and evening wear.
The Alice’s Guy Pageant, featuring 11 talented and entertaining contestants, was a memorable event. The flamboyant costumes and clever gags of performers such as Reese Chatwin as Barbie Q, Vic Cappuccio as Coco Nutt, Jonathan Fulgiam as Lady Chocolate Drop, and Matthew Sanchez as Miss Dazolam Ketamina, had the audience erupt in laughter.
The show-stopping acts of Glenn Feldman as Miss Demeanor, Micah Cole as Miss Direction, Tony Walters as Miss Fire, Alan Duran as Miss Tickles, Nolan Robertson as Miss Chevious, Jose Aquilera Jr. as Miss Behavior and Rhett Butler as Dolly Carton brought the house down and left a lasting impression on all those in attendance.
The Hawaiian-themed event also featured an auction with many items donated from local businesses and individuals. Including big-ticket items like a Route 66 sculpture made by Daniel Tafoya, a two-night stay in Rocky Point, Mexico, and dinner for two at the La Posada’s Turquoise Room.
The auction, along with ticket sales and other donations, raised about $13,300 for Alice’s Place that will go to directly help victims in our community.
The people’s choice award, which was determined by who was able to raise the most money individually, was given to Alan Duran as Miss Tickles who raised over $3,000 for the organization. Alan was also awarded the most entertaining and second runner up overall. Nolan Robertson as Miss Chevious was first runner up and Miss Dazolam Ketamina (Matthew Sanchez), won the pageant. With such a successful fundraiser, the Alice’s Guy Pageant is sure to become an annual event once again.
