The Lobos played one regular-season match last week before competing in the Westwood Tournament of Champions. Results for that tournament were not available.
Their regular season match was a battle. On Tuesday, the team traveled to Northwest Christian to take on last year’s state runner-up, which posted an overall record of 21-4. Snowflake ended last year’s season in the 3A state semifinal round with a loss to the Crusaders in five games.
Tuesday, the Lady Lobos avenged last year’s loss, although, like the semifinal, it took five games. Snowflake won the first 25-16, but dropped the second 23-25. They took game three 25-21, but lost the fourth 18-25 in the back-and-forth match. Snowflake won the decisive 5th game 15-11.
Snowflake finished with 53 total kills, led by Mairead Stradling’s 15. Josie Clare added 12, Mary Orr 9, Aubree Denhalter 8, Olivia Brimhall 5, and Alyse Kay 4.
Kinzie Flake served 4 aces; Mary Orr 3, Alyse Kay, and Josie Clare each had two.
Lucy Lyman led the team in digs with 29; Kinzie Flake added 13. Alyse Kay was the leader in assists with 23, and Kinzie Flake added 18.
A busy week ahead for the Lobos, although it is all at home. Monday, they host Winslow; Tuesday, it’s St. Johns, then over the weekend they will host the Snowflake Be Like Nat Invitational tournament. They are scheduled to see St. Johns, Tuba City, and Red Mountain in Friday’s pool play. Saturday will be bracket play.
Next Tuesday, they return to regular-season action with a trip to Show Low.
Snowflake is 4-2 in regular-season matches entering this week.
