This newspaper was going to bring you a live stream of local sports. A way for grandparents in other states, folks working the late shift and everybody who couldn’t squeeze into the stands to watch our kids play in real time. We had the idea, we had the enthusiasm and we had a person lined up to help make it happen. But about a week before, that person dropped out and it was too much to try and salvage it.

That’s not a complaint, mind you. Life happens to everybody and I hold no grudges. This year is all about us getting our feet wet, I thought I could still pull off something for the rivalry game but now we have a full year to plan to make sure next year everything goes perfect.

So consider this my official “live(stream) and learn” editorial.

It needs backup plans, backup people and probably a backup for the backup. Here’s the part that matters, though: we’re not giving up. The live stream is still coming. It might take us a little longer than we hoped and we might stumble once or twice more before we get it right, but I believe our community’s games are worth broadcasting and this newspaper is going to keep working until we can do exactly that. If you happen to be someone with the skills or the interest to help make it happen, please email me!

Sometimes the best coverage is just being there. But we’d still like to bring “being there” to the people who can’t be. We’ll get it done. Live and learn and then go live.
