It’s challenging to find peace of mind right now. Headlines are loud, social media is relentless and even everyday conversations can feel charged. When the world seems stuck in a constant argument, finding peace and happiness can feel almost irresponsible. But stepping back doesn’t mean you don’t care, it means you care enough to protect your well-being. Maybe it’s my Dutch genes, but I’ve always believed that progress comes from hard work and from concentrating on what we can realistically do, right here at home, to make life better. We can’t control national debates, but we
can
control how we show up in our homes, our schools and our communities. Choosing to listen more than argue, taking breaks from the news and investing time in things that ground us such as family, creativity, service and nature, creates space for calm. Happiness isn’t found by winning every argument; it’s found by staying connected to our values and to one another. In uncertain times, choosing peace is not avoidance, it’s resilience.
