The Wildcats began the new football season with a loss, however their 46-6 home field setback to visiting Salome showed hopes of a different type of season for Joseph City. According to head coach Martin Roes, “While the scoreboard didn’t reflect the spirit on the field. Wildcat fans saw glimpses of a brighter future. Despite the lopsided score the team displayed a resilience we haven’t seen in recent years.

“Our lone score in the fourth quarter, a hard fought run into the endzone, was a testament to the team’s determination and never give up attitude. Last season’s games often felt lopsided from the start. This year there is a different energy. You can see the commitment from the players and the coaching staff. We’re not where we want to be yet, but the progress is undeniable,” stated Coach Roes.

Salome’s coaching staff made the comment following the win, “I’m glad we played you guys week number one, because we wouldn’t want to see you later in the season, which is a testament to how the team has improved.”

This week, Joseph City travels to Valley Lutheran to take on the Flames on Thursday night. Valley Lutheran dropped their first contest last week, losing to San Manuel, 54-24. Both teams are looking for their first win early in the season, and one team will achieve that on Thursday night in the Valley.
