Joseph City football closed the book on its initial season under head coach Martin Roes, on Friday night with a 20-67 road loss to Mogollon. The Mustangs (7-1) entered that game ranked third in the 1A rankings with their lone loss coming to top-ranked and unbeaten Hayden.

For the Wildcats, the season was a rebuilding one for certain with coach Roes getting solid play from several underclassmen that can be built on for next year.

The team went 2-6 on the campaign, with the two wins coming over Maryvale Prep 30-14, and Mayer 32-18. They did struggle to find the endzone in their six losses before Friday’s game with the Mustangs. The team was shut out twice and scored just once in three other games.

Joseph City entered the final week ranked 15th. Only the top 12 at the 1A level advance to the postseason.
