The Lady Lobos wrapped up the regular season on Wednesday last week, capping a three-game week with three victories. They were ranked 15th on Friday and will more than likely be hosting a 3A play-in game on Wednesday.
If they maintain their position inside the top 17, they will host a lower-seeded team on Wednesday. With a win in that play-in game, they would be placed into the 16-team state bracket with the first round commencing on Tuesday, May 2, at the site of the higher-seeded team. Meaning Snowflake’s final home game will be Wednesday this week.
They closed the regular season on a six-game winning streak thanks to winning all three games played during the week. Facing the Lady Falcons in Whiteriver on Monday, the Lobos started slowly with just five runs through the first three innings, but that all changed in the top of the fifth where they closed out the game with 13 runs, earning the 18-1 win.
LillieAnn Hollom had a nice day going 5 for 5, with three triples. Kloah Ulberg went 4 for 5, with a home run and also hit three triples. Kadee Penrod was 3 for 4, with a home run. Mikelle Abbott went 2 for 5, with a pair of doubles. Josie Lyman was 2 for 4; Jordyn Bryant, 2 for 3; Kenzie Penrod, 1 for 3; and Rylee Finch went 2 for 4, with both hits as home runs.
Jordyn Bryant pitched five innings, giving up one run on only six hits with two strikeouts and no walks.
Hosting Blue Ridge on Tuesday, the Lobos had a much closer game. Neither team scored in the first two frames, but Blue Ridge scored three times in the third. The Lobos answered with two runs in the inning. The game was really won in the fourth inning when the Lobos scored five runs. Both teams scored two the rest of the way, leaving the Lobos with a 9-5 win.
Kloah Ulberg went 2 for 2, with a home run and a double. Livi Schneider was 2 for 3, also with a home run and a double. Graycee Skousen went 2 for 4; Rylee Finch, 1 for 3 with a double; LillieAnn Hollom, 1 for 4 with a double; Mikelle Abbott, 1 for 4, as was Kenzie Penrod.
Jordyn Bryant pitched 4.2 innings, allowing two runs on six hits, with three strikeouts. Kadee Penrod pitched 2.1 innings, giving up three runs on three hits with three walks.
Snowflake’s final game was on Wednesday and resulted in a 9-4 win over visiting Holbrook. Snowflake scored two in the first, then match the Roadrunners with single runs in the second. They extended their lead with four runs in the third. Holbrook added one in the fourth and both teams scored twice in the sixth. Neither team scored in the seventh, leaving the Lobos with the five-run win.
The win also pulled Payson and Snowflake into potentially a three-way tie for the region title. Holbrook would own the tiebreaker if they were able to defeat Blue Ridge in their final game on Monday.
Livi Schneider went 2 for 3, with a home run. Brynlee Bryant was 1 for 2 with a home run; Josie Lyman, 1 for 3; Jordyn Bryant, 1 for 2; Mikelle Abbott, 1 for 3; Graycee Skousen, 1 for 4; LillieAnn Hollom, 1 for 4; Rylee Finch 1 for 3; and Kloah Ulbert went 1 for 3.
Snowflake finished with nine stolen bases with Abbott and Skousen counting three each.
Jordyn Bryant pitched all seven innings in the circle. She allowed four runs on just five hits, with four walks and had five strikeouts.
Snowflake will know their play-in opponent by Tuesday morning of this week.
