Photo by China CassidyOn Tuesday, March 24, Phoenix based company, Sunland Asphalt, began work on the Holbrook Municipal Airport, which is expected to be completed by May 30. According to Kendra D. Riley, a representative for Sunland, there will be a full runway closure and the taxiway/apron will remain open to pilots, the local aviation association and the Holbrook City Staff. Part of the process requires a pulverizer that pulls up the existing asphalt and breaks it down into finer material, which is picked up by a skip loader, stockpiled and reused as part of the subgrade. Subgrade is the layer of material laid down before placing the new asphalt.

They paid homage to the founders of the community by having a family parade down Main Street for residents to watch from their homes, reminding everyone of the pioneer spirit that settled this community in 1876.
