The Wildcats upset Cicero Prep in the first round of the 1A football playoffs on Friday night. Playing at Scottsdale Prep Academy the 11th seeded Cats upended the sixth seeded Centurions 33-24. That win advances them in the 1A bracket where they, unfortunately, get to match up with third seeded Mogollon.
These two met in the final regular season game for both teams just two weeks ago where the Mustangs dominated the Wildcats in Heber 55-0. This game will also be played in Heber since the Mustangs are the higher-seeded team. Mogollon had a week of rest due to earning a bye as the third overall seed. Joseph City will have to find some new recipe if they want their season to advance past Friday night. The Mustangs are the two-time defending 1A state champion and appear to be headed back to at least the semi-final round. Joseph City pulled an upset in the first round. A win over Mogollon would be an even larger upset, but in the playoffs, anything can happen.
