Holbrook’s meeting with Chinle on Friday night at the Wildcat Den was the second meeting between the two teams in a 12-day span. The Wildcats cruised through their first meeting held in Holbrook and this time around things pretty much went the same way in front of their home fans for Chinle who handed Holbrook a 66-43 defeat.
The Roadrunners tried to keep pace in the first with Anthony Nelson netting all five of his game points in the first eight minutes helping his team stay within five points. Kobi Koerperich’s two three-point field goals in the second weren’t enough to offset a 17-point quarter from Chinle who moved in front 34-19 at the break. Holbrook netted just eight points in the third falling behind by 21 points heading to the fourth. Oscar Hernandez netted seven in the final eight minutes for Holbrook who had their best offensive quarter of the night with 16 points, but they still fell well short of the talented Wildcats.
Holbrook was led in scoring by Koerperich with 8; Hernandez, 7; Tynen Thomas, 6; Zeke Begaii, Anthony Nelson and Jeffrey Jones each had 5; Damien Clark, 3; Josiah Freddie, 2; and Ethan Bahe helped with 1. Holbrook connected on six three-point shots and converted seven of their 11 free throw attempts.
Chinle was led by Cooper Burbank with 18. Payton Wagner and Angelo Lewis both had 12. The Wildcats hit five three-point shots and went nine for nine at the charity stripe.
With the loss Holbrook evens their season mark at 3-3, and their regular season record dips to 1-2. The Roadrunners hosted Ganado on Tuesday then will remain at home on Friday to welcome in Fountain Hills.
