Joseph City earned its second win of the season last Saturday, coming home from a lengthy trip to Fredonia with a 42-14 victory over the Lynx.

The long bus ride may have taken the Cats’ legs early, with Hayden Hendricks’ 30-yard touchdown pass to Chance Bray and Matt Fields’ conversion run counting as the only points in the first period for either team.

The Wildcats awoke in the second quarter, scoring three times while still blanking the home team. Bray compiled three rushing touchdowns in this period alone. His first came from two yards out at the 7:49 mark of the quarter. A 10-yard run at the 2:46 mark was followed by a 33-yard scoring run with 31 seconds left in the half. Hendricks connected with Koby Smith following the first touchdown, giving the Wildcats a comfortable 28-0 halftime lead.

Bray picked up the scoring for the Cats again in the third, scoring on an eight-yard run with just three minutes off the clock. With 5:54 left in the third Dylan Romero scored on a two-yard run. Hendricks again connected with Smith for the conversion, pushing the lead to 42-0.

Fredonia avoided the shutout with a pair of fourth period scores in the final 2:39 of the game.

Joseph City piled up 372 total yards compared to just 189 from the Lynx.

Hendricks completed six of nine passes for 111 yards and one score. Fields was one for three for five yards. Bray had two receptions for 55 yards and a score. Smith caught three for 45 yards. Troy Poudrier had two catches for 16 yards.

On the ground Bray led the way with 158 yards on 18 carries and found the end zone four times. Hendricks rushed 12 times, gaining 52 yards. Poudrier picked up 30 yards on eight rushes. Romero gained 10 yards on nine runs, scoring once. Fields rushed three times for six yards.

Kaden Westover led the team in tackles with 8.5. Hendricks added 7.5 and Smith finished with seven with one interception. Aaron Johnstun and Poudrier also had interceptions.

With the win the Wildcats improved to 2-4 on the season.
