By Greg Perkins The initial power rankings were released on Thursday last week and prior to their Thursday night’s win over Ash Fork the Wildcats were sitting in the 16th position. This year in 1A only 16 teams will qualify for the state tournament, so the Cats find themselves on the edge with three weeks left in the regular season. Joseph City picked up two wins last week beginning with a home court 63-37 trouncing of Mayer. The Wildcats took a double-digit lead in the first quarter, and used a strong third period to put the game out of reach. Jay Edwards who has been playing lights out lately had yet another impressive night scoring 31 points on 59 percent shooting. Bannon Johnston added 9; Karter Lampsa, 8, which included a pair of treys; Avery Buckley, 6; Jeyrell Billie, 4; Bryce Bushman, 2; Blake Palmer, 2; and Travis Wilson contributed 1. Playing at Ash Fork on Thursday again the Wildcats met little resistance downing the Spartans by a final of 52-30 pushing their overall season record to 5-3. After facing St. Michaels on Tuesday, Joseph City is slated to host Ash Fork on Thursday, then welcome in Williams on Saturday. Next Tuesday they will travel to Mogollon.
