By Greg Perkins The first meeting between Joseph City’s and Williams played in the football regular season was a huge win for the Vikings. When they met in the second round of the 1A state playoffs on Friday night, the result was similar. Joseph City played tough through the first period finishing the quarter knotted with the top overall seed at 8-8. The Wildcats scored first in the game midway through the first period but moments later Williams answered with a score of their own. Williams scored 28 unanswered points in the second period to open the game up. In the third period the Vikings tacked on another 22 straight points to lead 58-8 going into the fourth and final quarter. Joseph City did get one final score late in the game but those eight points were their final points of the season in the 58-16 final outcome. Joseph City finished the season with an overall record of 5-4. The ninth seeded Wildcats defeated No. 8 Fort Thomas last week to earn their shot at No. 1 Williams. Williams received a first round bye and they have to be one of the favorites along with No. 3 Mogollon, who defeated Arete Prep 69-13, to meet up in the state title game in a couple of weeks. Williams will now face No. 4 Hayden and Mogollon will match up with No. 2 Superior this week.
