After winning four straight to open the season the Wildcats have now dropped two in a row with their 54-16 loss to Valley Union on Friday. The Blue Devils used a strong rushing attack to post a 30-point half time edge, then doubled up Joseph City in the second half to put the game away.
Valley Union’s senior Karsen Estelle rushed just 12 times but gained 195 yards on those runs with two scores. As a team the Blue Devils compiled 348 yards on the ground with five touchdowns and completed four of five passes for 122 yards with two additional scores.
Joseph City had trouble stopping the run and they also had problems taking care of the ball with three interceptions and two lost fumbles.
This week the Wildcats now 4-2 should get back into the win column when they play on Thursday hosting a struggling Rough Rock team, which comes in at 1-4 on the season. The Sun Devils only win came two weeks ago when they edged a winless Fredonia team 38-36. Joseph City defeated that same Lynx team 45-0.
After playing their penultimate regular season game of the year, Joseph City has just one remaining regular season game, which will be at rival Mogollon on Oct. 14.
