The Wildcats expected their trip to Heber on Friday night to be a difficult one. The Mustangs were coming off back-to-back state titles, and despite losing twice this year to good teams they still had an impressive 6-2 record and were ranked 3rd in the 1A rankings.
On paper, the Mustangs were the better team. On the field they proved it blanking Joseph City by a final of 55-0 to win the 1A north region title. The Mustangs won their fourth straight game, while Joseph City continued their up and down season with the loss. The Cats were ranked 11th heading to that game and now enter the state bracket in that 11th position this week. They will travel to Cicero Prep on Friday night to take on the sixth seeded Centurions in the first round match up.
With a win, they would advance in the bracket. With a loss their season will come to a close. Joseph City is 5-4 while Cicero Prep is 6-2 in the season. The only common opponent the two have this year is Mayer. The Centurions defeated Mayer 56-6 in the first week of the season, while Joseph City took care of Mayer 47-26 in week six of the season.
