In their only baseball game since returning from spring break, the Joseph City Wildcats came out on top with a tight 2-1 win over visiting St. Johns last Tuesday.

Joseph City scored once in the bottom of the first to get the early lead, then doubled that margin with a solo run in the fourth. St. Johns made the game close by scoring once in the top of the fifth, but the Wildcat pitchers did their job over the final three innings to secure the one-run win. The Cats scattered 12 hits in the game and made just one error. St. Johns finished with only three hits and made no errors.

Jesse Hulsey went 2 for 3 with a double. Dylan Romero and Troy Poudrier were also 2 for 3. Kolton McCormick went 2 for 3 and scored once. Bryndon Buckley went 1 for 3 with a solo home run. Rance Haddox was 1 for 3 and Cameron Baldwin went 1 for 3 with an RBI.

Buckley worked six innings on the hill, allowing just one run on three hits with 12 strikeouts and two walks. Poudrier pitched the final inning, allowing no hits and posting two strikeouts.

With the win the Wildcats improved to 3-3 on the season and they are 2-1 in power point contests. After facing the Redskins again on Tuesday in St. Johns, the Cats will host Chinle on Thursday, then travel to Northland Prep in Flagstaff on Friday. Next Tuesday they play at Williams.
