The Joseph City Wildcats won three games in four days last week, extending their current win streak to eight in the process. That streak moved them into the top 10 in the 1A rankings at the onset of this week, and with just two games remaining in the final week of the regular season the Wildcats are poised for a trip to the state tournament.
Last Wednesday Joseph City picked up a 60-51 home court win over Williams. The Cats started slowly, trailing by three at the end of the first, but by the half they had built a seven-point lead.
Williams countered in the third, cutting the margin to four, but in the fourth the Wildcats took control to secure the win.
Matt Fields continued his dominating play, netting 26 points. Troy Poudrier added 11; Latrelle Kinlicheenie, 9; Bryndon Buckley, 7; Aaron Johnstun, 5; and Talon Smith, 2.
Joseph City made three treys and went 21 for 28 at the line. Fields made good on all 11 of his attempts.
Two nights later the Cats were on the road in Ash Fork, where they prevailed 57-44.
Saturday night they hit the interstate once again for a trip to Seligman, where they upended the Antelopes 74-55 to keep their win streak alive.
After hosting Cibecue on Tuesday, they will close out the regular season on Friday when the Mayer Wildcats visit. Joseph City is 13-3 in regular season games and 17-8 overall.
