By Greg Perkins The Wildcat wrestling team has struggled thus far this season with a limited roster and a young team. So far Joseph City has been able to compete in seven duals and with AIA guidelines not allowing for large invitational meets this season wrestlers are having a tough time putting together any momentum. The Cats have dropped all seven duals, but when a weight class isn’t filled the team score takes a hit with the forfeit. The Wildcats have just nine wrestlers on their roster and three of the weight classes have multiple wrestlers meaning just one can wrestle for varsity points each match. Joseph City has dropped all seven duals. They lost to Winslow, 78-0; Round Valley, 48-14; Holbrook, 36-18; Camp Verde, 72-6; Prescott, 48-12; St. Johns, 72-0; and Mogollon, 60-12. Sophomore Hayden Fischer has compiled a 4-3 mark in the 220 weight division. Fellow sophomore Joseph Thomas competes in the 285 weight class and has posted a 5-2 record. TJ Westover is 2-1, Ethan Thomas, 2-6; Brody Penrod, 2-6; Owen Beatty, 1-1; Paul Wirbeleit, 0-5; Bruce Weightman, 0-5; and Austin Westover is 0-6. All division IV wrestlers will compete at the state meet, which will be held on March 16 and 17 at Poston Butte High School.
