Winslow High School girls’ basketball Coach Jerron Jordan has had an extremely successful career after taking the reins from retired legendary coach Don Petranovich.

Jordan has his sights set on another state championship for the Lady Bulldogs. He lost some talented players to graduation, but has the ingredients for a team that should be a serious contender for a state crown.

The team is led by its All State senior star Shandiin Armao. She is a four-year starter, and arguably the best girls’ basketball player in the state. She is an excellent shooter, rebounder and passer, and, most important, a team player who makes the rest of the team play better as well. She is a highly intelligent girl who could even be the school valedictorian. Major colleges have already expressed an interested in recruiting her. The one that gets her will definitely help their program.

Jordan will be assisted by Eric Petranovich, son of Don Petranovich, Alicia Aberle and Stacey Berg. Berg was an All-State player on the Winslow boys’ team before going to college on a football scholarship. He should be a welcome and productive addition to the program.

The team will have a number of solid players returning besides Armao. Jayce Sangster is a young player who performed well last season. Michaela Bia and Erica Jodie also played well last season.

They will be joined by Lynnae Mitchell, Mickey Yellowhair, Jenna Yazzie, Adranna Singer, Kalli Hunter, Kaelyn Bitsoi, Ann Begay, Ashley Johnson, A.J. Tapito and Tomiko Clough.

The Bulldogs will begin play on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Page against the Lady Sand Devils, who have been fierce rivals in recent years, including the finales of state championship tournaments.
