The Native American Christian Academy, formerly Sun Valley Indian School, Warriors opened the volleyball season with a win over Mountain Christian School in Show Low. The first set of the season always comes with jitters, and the Warriors fell to the Lions, 25-17. In the second set the Warriors came out ready. They were down 23-21 and with Eligle Begay serving, came back to win 25-23. Down 5-1 in the final set, Aysa Benally put the team up 7-5 and the Warriors didn’t look back, winning 15-11. MCS was well coached and had very good players, providing a good matchup for the Warriors, according to NACA Coach Michael Welch. The NACA junior varsity squad also won, 25-13 and 25-18, to start the year off with a 1-0 record. The young Warriors came from behind with great serving by Briana Jodie and Sharadee Sands. They also put a stop to Mountain Christian’s serves by working together as a team and putting the ball in spots where the Lions couldn’t reach it. All the jayvee players showed great team effort to pick up the win over MCS.
