The Sun Valley Indian School Warriors earned convincing victories in both their varsity and junior varsity matches with the Payson Community Christian Eagles Dec. 2. The varsity Warriors pounded the back row of the Eagles’ players. The final scores, 25-9 and 25-10, were tallied even though three starters were missing from the lineup for three-quarters of the match. Servers Carlton Nez and Deidra Nez were effectively painting the lines and hitting the back row, but the Warriors also showed improvement in setting with a purpose to the core attackers. Serving was the key for the jayvee squad as the young Warriors attacked the back row of the Eagles. Time and time again, led by Brianna Tsosie, the Warriors were victorious, racking up 25-9 and 25-8 victories. Coach Kris Miller hoped the trend would continue as the Warriors competed in the Desert Pine Sports League Tournament, which began Tuesday. If victorious, the Warriors will take on their challengers in mid-day contests on Friday at Sequoia.
