petrified forest

Come out and volunteer for a day at the Petrified Forest National Park! This volunteer project takes place at the 50,000-acre Paulsell Ranch, which the National Park Service acquired in 2011, so participants will see a part of the park not seen by very many others. This is a great chance to give back to a park that gives so much. Everyone is invited to participate in this free volunteer service event. The project will be to remove unnecessary fencing inside the Park so that wildlife can easily move back and forth. Work can be strenuous and involves walking over uneven terrain for over a mile in some cases. Bring sun protection, sturdy shoes, water bottles, and work gloves if you have a pair you like. The park will provide tools (including gloves if needed), transportation, water for refilling bottles, and lunch. Meet at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Painted Desert Visitor Center Parking lot (Exit 311 off Interstate 40). Volunteers will return to the parking lot by 4 p.m. This is a joint project of Friends of Petrified Forest, the National Parks Conservation Association and Petrified Forest National Park.
