For the second time in a week, a vehicle on Interstate 40 near Joseph City drove across the median into oncoming traffic.
At approximately 2:41 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, a 2012 silver Chevrolet sedan driven by Rolf Paul Knierim, 90, with passenger Hildegard Emma Knierim, 89, of Claremont, Calif., was traveling westbound when their vehicle went off the road into the median and onto the eastbound lanes colliding with a white 2015 Ford SUV. The Chevrolet sedan rolled and both the driver and front seat occupant of the Chevrolet sedan were declared deceased at the scene.
The driver and passenger of the Ford were transported to Little Colorado Medical Center for treatment of their injuries and were later released.
