Softball 2 Snowflake

The Snowflake Lady Lobos’ three wins last week pushed their win streak to 12 as they head toward the Division III state softball tournament, which begins on Friday, April 29.

Hosting Window Rock on Wednesday, the Lobos won handily 11-1 in five innings. After the Lady Scouts scored their only run in the top of the first, Snowflake took control with three in the second, then opened things up with a six-run third inning.

Tori Flake pitched a one-hitter, giving up that run on one hit with 10 strikeouts and walked one batter.

At the plate, Breklee Tanner was 1 for 3 with a triple; Eilee Penrod, 1 for 3; Madi Butler was 2 for 2 with a double; Flake, 1 for 2; Mikayla Hall, 1 for 3; Hallie Bauer, 1 for 2 with a home run; Keltcee Hensley, 1 for 3 with a triple; Shaelee Hensley, 2 for 3; and Bailey Standerfer, 2 for 3 with a triple.

Playing in St. Johns on Thursday the Lobos had to go six innings before the 10-run rule finished the game with them on top 10-0.

Tanner had a nice day at the plate, going 3 for 3 with a double and a triple; Penrod, 1 for 4; Flake, 3 for 4 with a home run and a double; Hall, 1 for 4 with a double; Keltcee Hensley, 1 for 2; and Shaelee Hensley, 2 for 4 with a home run.

Flake pitched four innings, giving up just one hit with nine strikeouts. Tanner worked two innings, allowing no hits with four strikeouts.

Snowflake closed out the week in fine form with a 21-1 victory at Blue Ridge on Friday.

The Lobos entered this week ranked third in the Division III power rankings with just Tuesday’s road game at Payson left on the regular season schedule. As a high seed the Lobos will definitely host a first round state tournament game on Saturday, April 30. Their opponent won’t be known until Thursday morning. If they advance to the second round, that game would be played on Thursday, May 5, at the Rose Mofford Complex in Phoenix, with the third round following on Friday.
