route 66

There are plenty of happenings taking place in Holbrook as part of the city’s annual Route 66 Festival this weekend, including a unique opportunity to see the Mother Road like never before.

The Petrified Forest Relic Tour takes visitors on a stretch of Route 66 that is not open to the public any other time of the year. A tour guide will also show the remnants of businesses along the highway, and tell of the people who owned them and the critical role they played for travelers on the long, lonely stretches of Route 66.

The tour bus leaves at 8 a.m. on Friday, June 9, from the parking area just off the Adamana exit of Interstate 40, 14 miles east of Holbrook, and finishes at approximately 2 p.m. The cost is $20 per person, and includes lunch, ice cream at the newly opened shop at the Painted Desert Inn and a photo opportunity with the world renowned Harvey Girls.
