The Peaks traveling baseball team won the High Desert Classic tournament on Sunday, July 10, in Albuquerque, N.M., after battling from Thursday to Sunday against 40-plus teams from Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada and Texas. The Flagstaff squad prevailed in three final games on Sunday, earning the title in a 7-0 victory over a team from Lubbock, Texas. The highlight of that game came in the sixth inning when Lubbock had the bases loaded and the Peaks turned a triple play to end the inning. Though most of the Peaks players are from Flagstaff, the squad also includes Caleb Layden and Ty Hancock, both of Winslow.
