The Navajo County Fair is fast approaching with plenty to see and do for the entire family. The gates open on Wednesday, Sept. 14 and the fair will continue through Sunday, Sept. 18 in Holbrook. Fair organizers are making the most of this year’s theme of Spur Up Some Fun with more family entertainment planned than ever before.
Along with the annual favorites, a special concert performance by award winning country music band Emerson Drive, with Branch & Dean as the opening act, will take place on Saturday, Sept. 17. Tickets are on sale now for $25 for the concert only or $30 for a rodeo/concert package at the county fair office, located at 404 E. Hopi Drive in Holbrook or by calling (928) 524-4757.
There will be plenty of exciting events to choose from, including two nights of rodeo featuring top Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) bucking stock from Honeycutt Rodeo Company, PRCA Barrelman Troy “Wild Child” Lerwill, specialty act Tomas Garcilazo, rodeo announcer Jody Carper and a live video scoreboard with instant replays.
Other fair favorites include the rowdy fun of the Demolition Derby and the talented young ladies participating in the Junior Miss Pageant. There will also be open class exhibits, the Junior Livestock Show and auction, the 4-H Horse Show, the Small Stock Show and exhibits.
Also included on the schedule are the Little Buckaroo Rodeo, Open Junior Rodeo, goat roping and Open Class exhibits and demonstrations.
There will be live musical performances by Moonshine Mafia and Harry Luge, and midway entertainment will include Farmer Phil, Poppin’ Penelope, Freddie Prez Entertainment Zone and Reptile Adventures.
Visitors can take in the sights and sounds as they enjoy terrific food along the midway, including Jose’s Green Chile, funnel cakes, old-fashioned lemonade and other fair food favorites.
The fair wouldn’t be complete without a carnival, and this year the fair welcomes back Frazier Shows of America.
Fair books are available at the fair office in Holbrook and at businesses throughout the county, providing information for residents who want to enter their homegrown or homemade items and collections.
Entry into the fair is $5 per person and $65 for a family pass, which is good for six people the entire week of the fair. All veterans are admitted free with identification.
