By Greg Perkins Snowflake football’s weekly opponent changed, but their weekly result was the same. The Lobos were originally slated to face Coconino on Friday night but the Panthers had to cancel due to COVID. In their place, Peoria, who also had an open date agreed to host the Lobos Friday. The Peoria Panthers may have had second thoughts by the time the game was over. Snowflake dominated the 4A school winning the game 50-0. The Lobos took the opening kick-off and marched right down the field capping a seven-play drive with a six-yard scoring run by Camden Brimhall. Crockett’s PAT gave the Lobos the early 7-0 lead. Cooper Rapier picked off a Panther pass and returned it to the nine-yard line. Two plays later Caden Cantrell found Matthew Brimhall for a short touchdown pass and the rout was on. A second interception set up the Lobos on the Panther’s two-yard line and Cantrell quickly covered those two yards giving the Lobos a 22-0 at the end of the first quarter. Cantrell connected with Rhett Wengert for a 45-yard touchdown pass pushing the lead to 29-0 with Crockett’s kick midway through the second quarter. That lead held until the second half. Wengert scored on a four-yard run in the third, and the Lobo defense had a goal line stand late in the period holding the Panther’s off from the one-yard line on fourth down. Early in the fourth, Camden Brimhall scored on a five-yard run making the score 43-0. Easton Butler connected with Noah Baum on a 19-yard catch and run for the final points of the night leaving the Lobos with the 50-0 shut out win. Cantrell finished the night going 11 for 15 for 190 yards, with a pair of touchdowns. Butler completed one of two passes for 18 yards with a score. Lance Christensen led in receiving yards with 60 on two catches. Baum had three grabs for 52 yards with a score. Wengert had one 45-yard scoring reception. Eduardo Guevara had two catches for 19 yards. Camden Brimhall, Davyn McCray, JJ Lerma and Matthew Brimhall each had one reception. On the ground, Camden Brimhall led with 53 yards and two touchdowns. Cantrell had 45 yards and one score. Jett McCray rushed once gaining 30 yards. Wengert had two carries for 16 yards with a score. The Lobos intercepted Peoria five times on the night. Cooper Rapier had two of those five. With the win, the Lobos improved their season record to 5-1. Their remaining four regular season games will all be against east region opponents. This week they travel to Payson. Snowflake entered this week ranked seventh in the 3A power point rankings. Payson was ranked 13th but will drop a little due to their loss to third ranked Round Valley on Friday. As usual, the East Region is well represented in the 3A Standings. Round Valley is third; Show Low, sixth; Snowflake, seventh; Winslow, 11th; and Payson is 13th; and Blue Ridge is the lowest ranked region team sitting in 15th place.
