This week heralds the beginning of the holiday season in our communities with Winslow’s Christmas Parade to be held on Saturday, followed by the Festival of Trees the following week. Holbrook’s festivities will be quick to follow with the city’s tree lighting on Nov. 30 and its Festival of Trees and Parade of Lights the second weekend in December.
If you’re undecided about taking part in these events let me help sway you. The Winslow Christmas Parade is a wonderful occasion and a tribute to the tireless efforts of chamber of commerce staff Bob Hall and Angela Moser. The streets will be filled with vendors, families and friends coming together to enjoy the day. And if this parade is like every other year, there will be some impressive parade entries to delight everyone.
Holbrook is bringing on the holiday’s early with a community tree lighting that will be sure to include a chilly night, hot chocolate and some of the best company you will find. The city’s Festival of Trees and Parade of Lights have always held a special place in my heart. Each year this parade, tirelessly planned by Chamber of Commerce Director Cindy Tafoya and other community members, has set the mood of the season for my family with the opportunity to visit with old friends as we bundle up against the cold and the streets are lit up by parade floats. Afterwards it’s a short drive to the Festival of Trees, which is truly a spectacular holiday wonderland.
I hope you embrace the holidays and attend all the events in your community. With so much turmoil in the world it’s a simple way to remind ourselves that we live in a place where love and kindness is close at hand. I look forward to seeing you there.
