A 25-year-old Houston, Texas, man died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound following a traffic stop on Wednesday, Feb. 18, on State Route 77 south of Holbrook. At 8:32 p.m. an officer with the Arizona Department of Public Safety was leaving the Navajo County Governmental Complex in Holbrook when a vehicle sped by on SR 77 at a high rate of speed. The officer conducted a traffic stop and as he approached the vehicle, he heard the discharge of a firearm, then discovered that the driver was deceased. The death is under investigation by the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office.
