At approximately 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, the Joseph City Fire District was dispatched to the area of Third North and Westover Avenue for a structure fire. First arriving units found an outbuilding fully engulfed in flames. JCFD laid approximately 150 feet of hose line and extinguished the fire with minimal damage to the adjacent property. After a preliminary investigation, the cause of this fire was determined to be an unpermitted outside burn. The flame from the open burn spread to the outbuilding, causing the fire. Stephen Parrish, 70, was cited for reckless burning in connection with the incident. All outside burning not contained in a recreational fire pit requires a burn permit issued by Joseph City Fire District. It is always important to follow safe burning practices to avoid incidents like this.
