Both Snowflake soccer teams have advanced to the state playoffs, with each facing familiar foes in the opening round of the Division IV brackets.
The Lobos finished the season ranked 10th in the standings and will travel just north to face No. 7 Holbrook at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30. In their only meeting this year the Roadrunners prevailed 2-1 in a hard fought match played in Snowflake. Holbrook enters with a regular season mark of 8-4 while the Lobos ended the campaign at 5-7. The winner will advance to Payson on Saturday, Nov. 1, to match up with the second seeded Longhorns, while the losing team’s season will come to a close.
The Lady Lobos will host their first round match, which will also be played on Thursday night. Fourth seeded Snowflake welcomes in No. 5 Round Valley for a match-up between teams that are extremely even. They played twice this year, with one match ending in a 0-0 tie and the other a 1-0 Snowflake win. The Lady Lobos finished 7-3-1, while the Lady Elks were 6-5-1. The winner will advance to Campo Verde on Saturday for a match up against the winner of No. 8 Camp Verde and top seeded Blue Ridge. As with the boys’ teams, a loss brings the season to an end for someone.
