The Snowflake boys’ soccer team went 1-2-1 at the Old Pueblo Tournament held in Tucson over the weekend. Prior to the tourney they picked up a pair of critical regular season wins last Tuesday and Wednesday.
Tuesday’s match at Ash Fork ended with the Lobos on top 5-0. Snowflake got three goals from Jake Hall and another two from Bryce Brubaker in the win.
Hosting Payson the following day the Lobos were again victorious with a 4-0 win over the Longhorns. Ryan Neff, Bryce Brubaker, Dallin Hipps and Hall each had single goals in the win.
Dylan Neff had five saves in the Payson match and another four the previous day against Ash Fork.
The Lobos defeated Willcox 6-1 in Friday’s first tournament match, then battled to a 2-2 tie with Camp Verde. On Saturday they started the day with a 2-2 tie against Desert Christian, then fell to Chino Valley 6-0 in their final tournament match.
Snowflake enters this week ranked No. 5 in power points and will need to remain inside the top eight to reach the post-season. This week the Lobos have just one match with a trip to Show Low today (Oct. 4).
The Lady Lobos were also in the Old Pueblo Tournament, where they went 1-3 in their four matches. On Friday they fell to Chino Valley 4-1, then battled Blue Ridge in a defensive match that ended in a 0-0 tie. On Saturday they fell to Camp Verde 2-0, then picked up their only tournament win 1-0 over Payson.
After hosting St. Johns on Tuesday, they will travel to Round Valley on Saturday, Oct. 7. On Monday, Oct. 9, the team plays in Holbrook. The Lady Lobos enter this week ranked eighth in power points. They must climb into the top four in the final three weeks of the regular season if they want to reach post-season play, as only four teams make the state playoffs in the girls’ bracket.
