The Lady Lobos head into their final week of the soccer season ranked eighth in power points with a 2-6-1 season mark and will miss the post-season this year. After hosting Blue Ridge on Tuesday, they will put a wrap on their season on Thursday, Oct. 20, at Show Low. Even with wins in their final two matches the Snowflake squad would not be able to climb high enough in the rankings to make the post-season. In girls’ fall soccer this year only four teams qualify for the state tournament.
Snowflake defeated the Lady Roadrunners on Tuesday of last week with a 9-1 win in Holbrook. The Lady Lobos scored six first half goals, then added three more in the second half. Megan Gardner, Kambrey Craner and Lexi Shumway scored two goals each. Taegun West, Alyssa Rolow and Janie Tenney all scored once in the win. They made the most of their chances, converting nine of their 11 shots on goal. Kaddie Kay play 20 minutes in goal with one save. Sheronnie Owens also played 20 minutes with one save, but gave up the one goal to Holbrook’s Sophie Phaturos. Emily Rolow had five saves in goal in her 40 minutes as keeper.
The Snowflake boys’ team will be headed to the post-season. The Lobos have just one game left on their schedule, a home match today (Oct. 19) with St. Michael. They headed into this week ranked fifth in power points and in the boys’ division, the top eight teams make it to the state tournament.
In their most recent match the Lobos defeated St. Johns 8-2 on Wednesday of last week. Snowflake got three goals from Mason Willis, two each from Ryan Neff and Jake Hall, and one from Bryce Brubaker. Bryce Palmer was credited with three assists in those eight goals. Jesus Juarez played well in goal, allowing just two goals while turning away five shots on goal.
If in fact the Lobos make the post-season, which looks like a certainty at this point, they will play in the opening round of the state tourney, which begins on Friday, Oct. 28, at the Benedict Sports Complex in Tempe.
