September is just days away and it has a way of stealing the spotlight in Navajo County. The heat finally loosens its grip, evenings turn crisp, and suddenly the calendar is bursting at the seams with reasons to get out and soak up the season.
The festivities kick off in Winslow, and the town isn’t holding back. Saturday morning brings Clear Creek Days, a celebration that practically begs you to spend the day outside enjoying the water, community and sunshine. But Winslow isn’t done with you yet—come evening, Alice’s Place is dimming the lights and raising the curtain on a mystery dinner theater. That’s right: a little intrigue with your entrée. Who knew Saturday night could be this suspenseful?
The following week Holbrook steps up with the Navajo County Fair. For four days straight, the fairgrounds transform into a whirlwind of rodeo action, carnival rides, neon lights, and all the fried food your heart (and willpower) can handle. It’s part tradition, part spectacle, and entirely the kind of experience you’ll be telling stories about until next September rolls around.
Nearing the end of the month, Winslow throws a party worthy of a chart-topping anthem with the Standin’ on the Corner Festival, a two-day celebration inspired by the Eagles’ classic song that immortalized the phrase “standin’ on a corner in Winslow, Arizona.” The festival fills the Eagle Pavilion with live music, food vendors, and a laid-back, small-town energy that feels both nostalgic and vibrant. Visitors from near and far gather to enjoy bands playing everything from rock and country to blues, all while soaking in the atmosphere of the iconic corner itself. More than just a nod to a famous lyric, the festival has become a tradition that captures Winslow’s charm, musical spirit, and welcoming community.
More of a homebody? For the creative souls among us, Northland Pioneer College is once again hosting its Locally Grown exhibition, inviting artists from across the county to show off their work. Whether you’re a painter, photographer, sculptor, or someone who’s finally decided to dust off that hidden talent, this is your chance to be part of a showcase that celebrates the artistry rooted right here at home.
So, whether your idea of September bliss involves hitting the water, rodeo dust, live music or a paintbrush in hand, Navajo County has you covered. The only challenge? Fitting it all into your calendar.
