On Tuesday, Oct 22, Navajo County representatives hosted an event to share awareness for domestic violence at Gillespie Park in Holbrook. Speakers at the event included Holbrook Mayor Kathleen Smith, Navajo County Sheriff David Clouse, Navajo County Director of Victim Services Roxanne Pergeson, and Navajo County Attorney Brad Carlyon. These speakers talked about services that are provided for anyone who may be a victim of domestic violence, the bravery of reporting cases of domestic violence, and resources that are available for victims. Community members from various organizations were also present at the event handing out information for how their organizations can offer support to victims and their families. These organizations included the Navajo County Sheriff’s Office, Alice’s Place of Winslow, and more. The evening finished with participants holding up purple glow sticks and having a moment of silence to honor victims of domestic violence. Purple is the color used to represent domestic violence, which is also the reason for the trees Gillespie Park being lit purple.
