Holbrook went 1-3 at the Wolves Classic with games played Thursday through Saturday in Goodyear. The Roadrunners joined other east region teams, including Snowflake and Winslow, who struggled at the tournament. Snowflake went 0-4, and Winslow joined Holbrook going 1-3.
Holbrook’s tournament began on Thursday with a 21-1 loss to Erie Cathedral Prep from Erie, Penn. That team soundly beat the Birds 21-1. Facing Sabino on Friday morning, Holbrook fell 15-5 to what could be a potential 3A state tournament opponent.
Another team expected to make some noise in the state tournament is Northwest Christian, which provided Holbrook their second loss on Saturday by a final of 9-8. On Saturday morning the Roadrunners picked up their only win of the tournament outlasting familiar Snowflake 12-11.
With three weeks left in the regular season the Roadrunners have only six games left on their docket with all six counting towards the power rankings. After hosting Blue Ridge on Tuesday, the Birds will play at Show Low on Friday. Next Tuesday they travel to Snowflake. Holbrook entered this week ranked seventh in the 3A rankings with an 11-1 regular season record.
