By Greg Perkins With the close of the winter sports season, Holbrook High School rolls right into the spring sports, with baseball, softball, track and golf slated to begin soon. The Roadrunner baseball team will get things underway this weekend with action at the Falcon Invitational in Fountain Hills. Head Coach Brady Pond will lead his veteran team against Peoria and Fountain Hills on Friday, Feb. 26, and Northwest Christian and Coolidge on Saturday, Feb. 27. They will open the regular season on Tuesday, March 1, with a home game against St. Johns. Three days later they welcome in Window Rock. Players on this year’s varsity team include Cade Maestas, Scottie Gishie, Ryan Short, Cole McDaniel, Gabriel Gabaldon, Jeremiah Perry, Frankie Ulibarri, Justin Perkins, Michael O’Brien, Shane McGraw, Jalen Nez, Tryston Apodaca, Trevor Barton, Tristan Baldonado, Alex Haussman, Delano Anaya and Nick Robinson. “We have a good group of seniors that have a lot of varsity experience, and some quality juniors and sophomores that will contribute as well. Tristan Baldonado and Trevor Barton will lead the pitching staff. Cade Maestas returns after leading the team last year in most offensive categories as a sophomore,” said Coach Pond. “I am very excited and proud of this graduating class, my first class here at Holbrook, and am looking forward to seeing their hard work pay off.”
