The Roadrunners came out of their COVID pause and played well on Friday night. They were hosting a Winslow team coming off their own shut down, but Holbrook was simply too talented for the Bulldogs to contend with.
The Birds piled up 30 first quarter points paced by freshman Tyler Tapaha who had 12 points in the first eight minutes. The youngster added six more to his total in the second and Holbrook held a decisive 55-21 halftime lead. Holbrook slowed their scoring in the second half but the damage was done as they cruised to the 71-40 home court win.
Tapaha led all scorers with 20 points. Older brother Brandon Tapaha added 15, Noah Brown had 9; Kodiak Daw, 7; Sam Francisco, 6; Nick Begay, 5; John Black, 2; Izzy Ramos, 3; and Caden Tom helped with 2 points.
Holbrook remained unbeaten in regular season contests and is 8-0 heading into this week’s three game schedule. They are 16-2 overall. After hosting Snowflake on Tuesday night, they will travel to Blue Ridge on Wednesday. On Friday they welcome in a Payson team that took them to overtime in their first meeting.
The Roadrunners were ranked third in the 3A power points heading into Friday’s game.
