Holbrook’s two wins last week secured the 3A east region crown for the Roadrunners. Playing in Snowflake on Wednesday night, Holbrook was able to overcome a sluggish second period with good defense in the second half en route to a 51-38 road win.
Brandon Tapaha had just four points in the first half but found the range in the second to finish with 20 points. Tyler Tapaha scored throughout the game finishing with 16 points. Noah Brown added 10 and Quentin Thomas was the only other Bird to score with five points.
Playing in Payson for the regular season finale on Thursday night, Holbrook again had only four players score, but that was more than enough to defeat the Longhorns 69-50. Brown led the way with a 29-point effort, which included four treys. Tyler Tapaha went to work inside scoring a season-high 20 points. Thomas finished with 13, and Kyle Smith helped with a pair of treys for 6 points.
Holbrook finished the regular season with an overall record of 25-4. They head to the 3A state tournament as the No. 5 overall seed and will receive a first-round bye. Holbrook will host the winner of No. 21 ALA West Foothills and No. 12 Florence on Saturday night in the second round with tip time being 7 p.m. With a win, the Roadrunners would advance to the elite eight in Prescott on Tuesday.
