Holbrook’s regular season woes continued on Dec. 20 in Monument Valley. The Roadrunners, still searching for their first power point win, looked to have it in their hands with a five-point lead late in the game. A couple of missed free throw opportunities and an offensive put back by the Mustangs late in the game ended Holbrook’s hopes with a 68-65 loss.

Holbrook poured in 14 three-point shots in the game, but they were outscored by 10 at the charity line. Kobi Koerperich led the Bird attack with four treys for 12 points. Tyrell Nelson had three from distance and netted 11. Eric Baldonado added 10; Emerson Begay, 8; Anthony Nelson, 6; Tynen Thomas, 6; Jaren Jackson, 5; Josiah Freddie, 4; and Terrance Kelly helped with 3.

Along with their 14 shots from distance, the Birds went 7 for 12 at the line. Monument Valley was led by Mikendrick with a game high 32 points. The Mustangs made five three-point shots and went 17 for 26 at the free-throw line.

With the loss Holbrook fell to 10-6 overall, and they are now 0-5 in power point contests leaving them ranked 33rd in the 3A rankings.

The Birds have work to do when they return to the court on Jan. 5 when they travel to face Show Low. On the Jan. 6 they journey to Page, then will play at Snowflake on Jan. 9.
