Holbrook’s boys soccer team won all four games played at the Show Low Invitational tournament held over the weekend, with Friday wins over St. Johns and Desert Christian followed by Saturday wins over Page and Round Valley. While those wins were nice for confidence building, they don’t help Holbrook much in the standings as they were in a mid-season tournament.

Prior to the tournament, the Roadrunners played two regular season matches last week coming up short in both games. Hosting Chino Valley on Tuesday night Holbrook trailed 3-0 before getting a point on the board from Jason Ramirez in the first half. In the second half, the Cougars pulled away defeating Holbrook 7-1.

Two days later the Roadrunners played tough at Snowflake but the Lobos edged out front in the final minutes to win the competitive match 4-3.

With those two losses, Holbrook’s regular season record stands at 2-3 overall. This week they will host St. Michael on Wednesday then they will travel to take on Northland Prep on Friday. Next Tuesday they will host Camp Verde.

The Lady Roadrunner soccer team played just once last week. On Wednesday afternoon they were in Flagstaff taking on a very talented Northland Prep team. The Spartans are traditionally one of the top teams each year in fall soccer. Facing the Roadrunners, they proved just how good they are. Northland Prep scored early and often in the first half eventually leading 8-0 at the half.

In the second half, they worked on their passing game, taking just a few shot attempts then ended the game under the mercy rule at the midpoint of the second half with the 8-0 win.

With the loss, Holbrook drops to 0-4 in regular season matches. This week the team will have hosted St. Johns on Tuesday and welcomed in Sedona on Thursday. Next week they will travel to take on Camp Verde on Tuesday.
