The Holbrook Roadrunners continued their hot start to the season with an 83-65 victory in their home opener over Blue Ridge Tuesday night.
Both teams scorched the nets in the first eight minutes, which ended in a 20-20 tie. In the second the Birds opened up a 12-point lead, thanks in part to 10 points from Abrian Dickson.
Blue Ridge trimmed one point off the lead in the third thanks to McKay Berges, who netted 12 of his game high 24 points in that period alone. Holbrook still held a 61-50 lead with eight minutes to play. In the fourth Miireux Begaii scored nine points to help keep Holbrook out in front.
Holbrook was led in scoring by Begaii with 19 points. Dickson added 17; Elliot Pete, 11; Rhett Desiderio, 9; Nathan Johnson and Benson Davis, 8 each; Hayden Kinlicheenie, 7; and Brandon Kester, 4. As a team Holbrook hit seven three-point shots and went 14 for 22 at the line.
Blue Ridge countered with six treys and made 13 of 19 free throws.
After traveling to Payson on Thursday, the Roadrunners will be off until Thursday, Dec. 17, when they host Ganado. The next night they will host Fountain Hills, then on Monday, Dec. 21, they will wrap up a three-game home stand when Prescott comes to town. Holbrook is off to a 9-0 start to the season.
