The last two seasons, Holbrook’s football has started slowly, going 0-3 to start each of those seasons, which put them behind in power points to start the season.
Following Holbrook’s 42-6 win over Window Rock on Friday night, the team is now 3-1 through the first four games, and they are hoping to gain more power points as a result.
Holbrook posted all 42 points in the first half on Friday night against an overmatched Scouts team. Simeon Shaw found the endzone first on a 64-yard run. Jonathan Sample punched in a 1-yard score, then Matthias Montijo scampered in from 49 yards out.
Shaw found the endzone again, hauling in a 62-yard connection with Sample. He and the sophomore quarterback hooked up again from 4 yards out for another score. The sixth and final touchdown of the half came on a 37-yard run by Montijo.
Sample completed 7 of his 15 passes for 102 yards with two scores. He also rushed 3 times for 10 yards with another touchdown.
Montijo carried 8 times, gaining 150 yards with 2 touchdowns. He added 3- 2-point conversions as well.
Shaw showed his elusiveness with 82 yards on 2 runs with a score. He added 2 receiving touchdowns with 81 yards.
Danie John had 13 receiving yards. William Kinds had 8 receiving yards. Damien Ohlson rushed for 24 yards on 3 attempts.
Adain Stump got some work at quarterback, completing 2 passes for 8 total yards. Stump completed 2 passes for 8 yards. He also punted once for 28 yards.
Holbrook will travel to face Scottsdale Prep on Saturday this week. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start at the Spartans’ home field.
Scottsdale Prep is just 1-3 thus far this season but has played a much more difficult schedule than the Roadrunners. Last week’s loss was a 43-14 setback to a good 3-1 Parker team. A win this week would boost Holbrook’s power points more than any of their three wins at this point in the season due to the Spartans’ overall strength of schedule.
