Holbrook gave up their first defensive points of the season on Friday night, in fact, 28 of them to Page, but the Roadrunner offense is potent enough that it didn’t matter, with Holbrook piling up points and yards winning the game 46-28 over the previously unbeaten Sand Devils.

Holbrook’s Daniel Montijo had a huge night. He finished with 224 yards on the ground and accounted for four touchdowns.

Marcus Oberriter got the Birds on the board with 5:14 left in the first quarter on a 38-yard run. Montijo found the endzone for the first time with 7:28 left in the second on a five-yard run putting Holbrook on top 14-0.

Page avoided a first-half shut-out by scoring on the final play of the half. The two-point conversion left Holbrook on top 14-8 at the break.

In the third Montijo scored on a four-yard run and Kyle Smith’s two-point conversion pushed the lead to 22-8. Five minutes later Page scored again trimming the lead to 22-14. Smith burst through for a short scoring run early in the fourth making the score 30-14.

Montijio then scooted 50 yards, pushing the margin to 38-14 with Smith’s two-point conversion. With 9:34 left in the game, Page wouldn’t go away, scoring again making the lead 38-20. They later scored again to pull within 10 points late in the game before Montijo broke free for another long scoring run this time from 63 yards out making the final score 46-28.

Montijo finished with 224 yards on 23 attempts. Oberriter gained 95 yards on seven runs. Darnell Nez had 15 yards on two runs and Smith finished with 10 yards on six carries.

Oberriter completed 13 of 19 passes for 202 yards with one interception. Smith was the favored target finishing with six catches for 105 yards. Tristian Cowboy caught four for 55 yards, Daniel John had one 26-yard catch and Chase Sahmie caught two for 16 yards.

Noah Padilla led Holbrook’s defense with 11 tackles. Montijo and Victor Saiz each had a sack. Mason Archunde, Chase Sahmie, and Oberriter each intercepted a Sand Devil pass.

With the win, the Roadrunners improved to 3-0 on the season. Their next month of competition will not do much to prepare them for state tournament play. Holbrook is expected to be highly favored in three of those matchups beginning with Red Mesa this Friday night in Holbrook. The Warriors are 0-2 on the season and have been outscored 104-14 in those two losses. It will be a long night for them on Friday night at Roadrunner Stadium.
